FROZEN CONDENSATE
As the winter takes hold, temperatures can drop to sub zero. Some condensing boilers have external condensates which can freeze causing an ice plug. This can lead to a boiler breakdown, due to the condensate within the appliance being trapped inside the boiler itself. In the event of this occurring, it may be possible to help yourself by pouring warm water over the external plastic condensate pipe. Be aware though that if temperatures are really low, this could cause ice to form on the ground outside creating a slipping hazard. Whilst this advice may not work, its worth a try, if you suspect this may be the problem if your boiler fails during freezing conditions, and save you the cost of calling out a tradesman.
